Rugged, portable, waterproof GPS devices with easy to read display and USB interface for data exchange with computer. Buttons and click stick for easy use. The model etrex 10 has a monochrome display and a pre-installed worldwide basemap. The models etrex 20 and etrex 30 are equipped with color displays, both devices have a pre-installed basemap and support additional maps which are available as options. Both models have 1.7 GB built-in memory and a slot for an optional µSD memory card. The model etrex 30 is additionally equipped with a barometrical altimeter and a tilt-compensated electronic compass. In addition, it can receive signals from heart rate monitor and speed/cadence sensor and it supports wireless data exchange with compatible devices. All three models are well suited for all kinds of outdoor activities such as hiking, biking and geocaching, but they can also be used in vehicles. The display is highly user configurable. Multiple settings can be stored as profiles which allow quick switching between different activities.

Memory: The etrex 20 and 30 have 1.7 GB built-in memory to store user data and to receive additional, more detailed maps which can be transferred from a PC to the GPS. Both models are equipped with a slot for a standard micro SD memory card ("TransFlash"). Memory cards are available as an option.
The etrex 30 is equipped with an electronic 3D compass to check the heading while not moving¹, accuracy ±5°, resolution ±1°, can be turned off to safe power. "3D" means tilt-compensated compass which does not require the device to be level for accurate readings.
The etrex 30 is equipped with a barometrical altimeter for precise elevation recording².
Powered by 2 AA batteries or by an external 12 V power source, e.g. from a car's cigarette lighter (power cord available as an option). Battery life time about 25 h.
Short time to first fix (TTFF³: approx. 15 seconds after a warm start, meaning there are valid coordinates of the satellites available, or approx. 45 seconds after a cold start, meaning there are no valid coordinates of the satellites available).
Supports the american GPS and the russian GLONASS system as well as WAAS (improves accuracy of position indication from typical better than 15 m (49 feet) to typical better than 3 m (10 feet))

¹) In order to check the heading with a GPS, a minimal movement with a speed of at least 5..8 km/h (3..5 mi/h) is required. Where no movement is not possible, a compass is needed.
²) Even though a GPS provides accurate elevation information, the value slightly varies continuously. A barometrical altimeter is therefore more accurate, especially when summarizing elevation changes.
³) TTFF: Time To First Fix, time until the first information about the current position is acquired.

For each data field, you can choose one from the following 38 (etrex 10 and 20) rsp. 50 (etrex 30) values.
You can configure the device to show values in english or metric units.

1	Accuracy of GPS	The current accuracy of your GPS determined position.
2	Ambient Pressure	The uncalibrated current pressure (etrex 30 only).
3	Ascent Average	The average vertical distance of ascents (etrex 30 only).
4	Ascent Maximum	The maximum ascent rate (etrex 30 only).
5	Ascent Total	The total distance ascended (etrex 30 only).
6	Barometer	The calibrated current pressure (etrex 30 only).
7	Battery Level	Battery charge level.
8	Bearing	The compass direction from a position to a destination measured to the nearest degree; also called an azimuth. In a GPS receiver, bearing usually refers to the direction to a waypoint.
9	Cadence	Revolutions of the crank arm per minute (requires optional bike speed and cadence sensor) (etrex 30 only).
10	Course	The direction from the beginning landmark of a course to its destination (measured in degrees, radians, or mils) or the direction from a route waypoint to the next waypoint in the route segment.
11	Descent Average	The average vertical distance of descents (etrex 30 only).
12	Descent Maximum	The maximum descent rate (etrex 30 only).
13	Descent Total	The total distance descended (etrex 30 only).
14	Distance to Destination	Current distance to the final destination.
15	Distance to Next	Current distance to the next waypoint or turn.
16	Elevation	Current altitude above sea level.
17	Elevation Maximum	Highest altitude above sea level since last reset (etrex 30 only).
