¹) SUUNTO calls these wrist straps stainless steel, rsp. titanium wrist straps. But in our opinion, these descriptions are somewhat misleading, because the wrist straps are actually made out of plastic with added stainless steel, rsp. titanium parts.

These are the main features:

The SUUNTO Observer provides 4 main functions with various sub-functions:

1. Time keeping (TIME)
   • Time and date, calendar pre-programmed up to the year 2089
   • Dual time
   • Three daily alarms
   • Stop watch with 99 split times
   
   
   
2. Altimeter (ALTI)
   • Range: -500 .. +9000 m, rsp. -1600 .. +29500 feet
   • Resolution : 1 m, rsp. 3 feet
   • Measures the current vertical ascent or descent speed. Performs one measuring per second for the first three minutes and then one measuring every ten seconds.
   • Altitude alarm
   • Altitude difference measuring
   • Automatic measuring of the altitude and the current vertical speed every hour for the last 24 hours.
   • Log feature stores the following information:
     • Date and time
     • Average vertical ascent speed and total ascent
     • Average vertical descent speed and total descent
     • Number of labs (a new lap starts after a decent of at least 50 m, rsp. 150 feet while ascending or vise a versa)
   
   
   
3. Barometer (BARO)
   • Range: 300 .. 1100 mBar, rsp. 8.90 .. 32.40 inHg
   • Resolution: 1 mBar, rsp. 0.05 inHg
   • Adjustable pressure on sea level
   • Automatic hourly measuring for trend analysis
   • Automatic 4-day logging with hourly measurings for the last 6 hours, after that one measuring every 6 hours
   • Pressure difference measuring
   • Temperature compensation
   • Temperature range: -20 .. +60°C, rsp. -5 .. +140°F
   
   
   
4. Digital Compass (COMP)
   • Heading in degrees and in clear text
   • Continuously updated
   • Shows deviation from pre-set direction
