The following lists of changes are based on information provided by GARMIN. Changes or improvements which we consider important or especially useful are shown highlighted.

To view the current firmware version, complete the following steps:

Turn on the GPS.
Press the page key until you see the settings page.
Select "SETUP" and press the enter key.
Select "ABOUT FORETREX" and press the enter key.
The current firmware version will be displayed on the second line.
Press the PAGE key to quit the screen.

Each upgrade replaces the complete firmware in the GPS, which means you need to install only the version you wish to apply. There is no need to install any previous versions.

Changes made from version 2.60 to 2.70:

Fixed an issue where bluetooth could stay on when not desired.

Fixed possible freeze while going into mass storage.
Fixed issue where system time was incorrect in some Russian cities.
Fixed possible issue where routes could not be created on device.

Added Yards as a distance unit option.
Improved vertical speed data field.
Improved track lines on map when navigating.
Fixed issue where current track was continuous on the map in cases where it shouldn't be.
Fixed Glide Ratio, Glide Ratio to Destination, and Vertical Speed to Destination data fields.
Fixed issue causing activity data in Garmin connect to be incorrect.
Fixed issue when deleting a waypoint when system language is set to Russian.
Fixed issue with cardinal direction characters in Russian, Greek, Danish, and Norwegian.

The GARMIN Foretrex 601 is very easy to use, supports multiple languages, has an extremely sensitive antenna and supports the U.S. GPS, the Russian GLONASS and the European Galileo satellites. It is the perfect partner for any outdoor activities. It helps to navigate, displays and records information about your movement, such as the current heading and speed, the travelled path (track), maximum and average speed, ascent and descent etc. The Foretrex 601 has an electronic compass, a barometrical altimeter and it can receive data from a heart rate monitor, a speed and cadence sensor and from a wireless temperature sensor. The built-in USB interface provides data exchange with a PC and the device can communicate with smartphones via BlueTooth.
